MELBOURNE, Australia (Reuters) – Former captain Michael Clarke believes Australia went soft against India during the 2018-19 home series, fearing sledging the likes of Virat Kohli would cost them lucrative Indian Premier League (IPL) contracts.India’s 2-1 triumph made them the first Asian side to win a Test series in Australia who sorely missed batting mainstay Steve Smith and opener David Warner due to ball-tampering bans.“Everybody knows how powerful India are in regards to the financial part of the game, whether that be internationally or domestically in regards to the IPL,” World Cup-winning captain Clarke said on the Big Sports Breakfast radio programme.“I feel, Australian cricket, and probably every other team, over a little period went the opposite – actually sucked up to India.“They were too scared to sledge Kohli or sledge the Indian players because they had to go and play with them in April.”Kohli captains Royal Challenger Bangalore and his limited-overs deputy Rohit Sharma leads Mumbai Indians in the Twenty20 league which features several Australian cricketers.Smith skippers Rajasthan Royals and Warner is captain of the Hyderabad franchise, but the start of this year’s tournament has been put back to April 15 due to the global coronavirus pandemic and further postponement looks inevitable.“So the players are like, ‘well, I’m not going to sledge Kohli, I want him to pick me for Bangalore, so I can make a million U.S. (dollars) for my six weeks’,” said Clarke, who played for the IPL’s now-defunct Pune franchise in 2012.“I sort of feel that was where Australia went through that little phase of our cricket, became a lot softer or not as hard as what we’re accustomed to seeing.”Clarke believes sledging Kohli is probably counter-productive anyway.“I feel some players think by winding him up, he might try and play that big shot early out of aggression or frustration,” Clarke said.“I sort of feel Kohli is one of those players that you are better off saying nothing to and just allow him to hopefully be a little bit sleepy at the start of his innings and make a mistake.”Australia fast bowler Pat Cummins is the IPL’s most expensive overseas buy after Kolkata Knight Riders bought him for $2.18M in December.

Stevie Wilkerson is the first position player EVER to record a save (saves became an official stat in 1969).— MLB Stats (@MLBStats) July 26, 2019While it’s not his usual role, Wilkerson isn’t unfamiliar with the mound. This was his third appearance in July and his scoreless frame lowered his ERA to 2.25.The game lasted 6 hours, 19 minutes and saw a combined 20 pitchers. The O’s may not have much to celebrate this season, being 33 games out of first place with a 33-69 record, but they managed to pull off an epic win and one of their players even made history in the process. Orioles fans woke up to good news Friday morning. Stevie Wilkerson made history Thursday night and it wasn’t for his defensive mishap in center field or game-tying hit in the eighth inning. Believe it or not, it was for his performance on the mound.

According to event organizers, “Almost 1200 wines were submitted from over 25 countries and less than 45% won a medal.”Westport Winery’s Smokey Nor’westerSmoky Nor’wester, a blend of 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot, 26% Cabernet Franc, and 8% Syrah, is described in the winery’s tasting notes as having “Maserati intensity, like a good spanking.” With that description you can see why it earned this high honor. All of the Bordeaux grapes were grown at Two Blondes Vineyard in the Yakima Valley AVA. The Syrah was grown at Discovery Vineyard in the Horse Heaven Hills AVA.A portion of the proceeds from this wine benefits the Museum of the North Beach in Moclips, Washington. The label art of a siren waiting for her ship to come in was provided by the museum. A smoky nor’wester is a weather phenomenon where an ominous heavy fog roils across the ocean from the northwest. The Smoky Nor’wester sculpture located in the winery’s 15-acre display garden was created by the winery’s executive chef Nicole Demmert. Demmert, a member of the Haida tribe of Southeastern Alaska and a graduate of the Seattle Art Institute, turned to her heritage to design this piece. According to Demmert this is the story of the trickster raven traveling over the clouds to stop the raindrops from falling.Westport Winery’s “Smokey Nor’wester sculpture was crafted by chef Nicole Demmert and depicts the story of the trickster raven traveling over the clouds to stop the raindrops from falling.Chef Demmert recommends that this be paired with their ‘Shroom Steak with sautéed mushroom and Petite Sira demi glace.
